The Opportunity
The Associate Director, Medical Affairs Operations & Strategy is a key strategic and operational leader within Medical Affairs, responsible for enabling the successful execution of Medical Affairs priorities across therapeutic area leadership, field medical, publications, and scientific communications.
As a trusted business partner to Medical Affairs leadership, you’ll aid in driving strategic planning, operational excellence, resource management, vendor oversight, and cross-functional execution. You will also partner closely with the therapeutic Area Leads, Head of Field Medical, and Publications team to build the infrastructure, processes, and operating rhythms needed to support a high-performing and scalable Medical Affairs organization – one that executes against its highest-impact priorities.
Primary Responsibilities
- Partner with Medical Affairs leadership to establish priorities, operational plans, and strategic investments, while monitoring progress against key initiatives to drive accountability and execution.
- Develop business reviews, leadership presentations, dashboards, operational metrics, and reporting that support decision-making and organizational visibility.
- Develop and continuously improve processes, governance, operating models, and performance metrics that increase efficiency, scalability, and organizational effectiveness.
- Identify operational risks, dependencies, and resource needs, supporting organizational planning and operational readiness for new initiatives.
- Oversee Medical Affairs operational support, including vendor management (onboarding, contracting, purchase orders, budget tracking, and performance) and operational planning across Field Medical and Publications.
- Serve as the primary operational liaison between Medical Affairs and key cross-functional partners, including Finance, Procurement, Legal, Compliance, Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, Commercial, and Market Access.
- Lead and coordinate cross-functional initiatives that advance Medical Affairs strategy, ensuring alignment, visibility, and execution across priorities and deliverables.
- Build strong relationships across a complex matrixed organization to foster collaboration, alignment, and effective execution.
Qualifications and Key Success Facto
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience within biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or healthcare organizations.
- Significant experience supporting Medical Affairs, business operations, strategic planning, or related functions.
- Demonstrated success leading complex operational initiatives in a matrix environment.
- Experience supporting senior leaders and influencing across functions.
- Experience managing vendors, contracts, budgets, and external partnerships.
- Field Medical, neuroscience, rare disease, or growth-stage biotech experience is preferred.
