Your Impact
Our People Systems team is expanding beyond Workday configuration into custom application development. Over the past year we built a performance review app, req editing workflows, and severance automation tools, and more are in progress. We need a senior engineer to lead the technical work on these products while staying hands-on as a contributor.
This is a player-coach role. You will write code alongside the team, own our engineering standards, and bring the technical maturity to help us build software that scales. You will also own Workday security role architecture and provide input on security across our custom applications. Prior HRIS experience is not required; a strong software engineering background with an interest in the people technology space is.
What You'll Do
Location: Seattle, Washington
Reports to: Director, People Systems & Data
Direct Reports: N/A
- Serve as technical lead on custom application development: architecture decisions, code review standards, and engineering best practices
- Contribute hands-on development and delivery across the People Systems app suite
- Own Workday security role architecture and access governance (SOX-compliant)
- Build and maintain integrations between Workday and downstream systems, including our AI application layer and carrier feeds
- Manage Azure and application environments: test/prod, integration monitoring, release readiness
- Partner with People Ops business users to translate requirements into technical solutions
- Collaborate with IT Security on access governance and with Audit and Compliance on a quarterly basis
What You Bring
Required
- Experience serving as technical lead on a software project: architecture decisions, code reviews, and influencing how a team works
- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining software in production environments
- Proficiency in JavaScript or Python, with sufficient depth to contribute to and extend a production codebase
- Experience working in a structured SDLC: version control, CI/CD, code review practices
- Working knowledge of access governance or security role administration — RBAC, least-privilege principles, access certification
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Comfortable operating with ambiguity; this team is actively building its engineering practice
Preferred
- Workday experience — security roles, EIB, Studio, Extend, or Prism
- Experience building with LLM APIs or working on AI applications
- Sigma or Power BI
- SOX compliance experience
Work Location
This role is based out of our Seattle Office and follows a hybrid schedule. We rely on in-person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, unless there is an approved workplace accommodation.
