Description
- Leo is Amazon's initiative to launch a constellation of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to provide broadband connectivity globally. We are seeking a Manufacturing Integration Specialist to join our OISL Production Engineering team and serve as the critical bridge between Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Production Operations. This role owns the end-to-end translation of engineering design intent into production-ready execution — from change validation and production alignment, to custom tooling and fixture design, to new product introduction and continuous improvement. You will ensure that what engineering designs is what production builds — correctly, the first time, every time. As a Manufacturing Integration Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in scaling Leo's OISL production line, driving high uptime, throughput, and quality of optical-mechanical-electrical assemblies through proactive change management and production excellence. Key job responsibilities Change Validation & Production Alignment • Validate that engineering changes align to production needs, constraints, and capabilities before release to the floor • Ensure changes translate seamlessly into production — correct parts, correct revisions, correct work instructions • Collaborate with Design Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering to identify production impacts of proposed changes and flag risks early • Review and verify BOM updates, drawing revisions, and work instruction changes for production accuracy and completeness • Serve as the production voice in change review boards and cross-functional disposition meetings Tooling, Fixtures & Error-Proofing • Design and develop custom tooling, fixtures, and jigs for precision optical alignment, fiber handling, and laser component integration • Develop and implement poka-yoke (error-proofing) solutions to prevent recurring defects and enhance first-pass yield • Support design for automation and scalable tooling concepts to enable high-volume production ramp-up • Own preventive maintenance procedures, troubleshooting strategies, and reliability improvements for production tooling and fixtures New Product Introduction (NPI) & Production Readiness • Lead production readiness activities for new builds, product introductions, and design iterations • Collaborate with design and process engineers to ensure manufacturability and tooling readiness • Drive equipment specifications, procurement, installation, and qualification of semi-automated and fully automated systems • Coordinate cross-functional gate reviews and first-article inspection processes Cross-Functional Integration & Continuous Improvement • Act as the single-threaded production liaison between Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations • Lead root-cause analysis and corrective actions for equipment-related and process-related issues impacting production KPIs (yield, throughput, uptime) • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the value stream — cycle time reduction, defect elimination, process standardization • Develop and maintain statistical process control documentation to support production excellence
Basic Qualifications
- - Bachelor's degree in Science - 4+ years of industrial engineer, operations engineer, manufacturing engineer, or project engineer in a manufacturing environment experience - Experience in CAD skills, including being capable of developing an integrated automation layout unassisted - Knowledge of agile product development and life-cycle management process - Experience participating in engineering change processes and validating production readiness of design changes - Familiarity with GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and design for manufacturability - Mechanically inclined with strong shop-floor presence and hands-on problem-solving ability
