Description
  • Amazon is seeking a Risk Manager to join the Global Risk & Business Continuity team within Compliance & Data Integrity (CDI). This team identifies, assesses, and mitigates operational risks across Global Operations Support Services (GOSS) ensuring that the processes supporting Amazon's infrastructure portfolio are resilient, well-governed, and continuously improving. In this role you will own the end-to-end execution of risk assessments, remediation programs, and business continuity activities across assigned process categories. You'll drive findings from identification through resolution, coordinate across Operations, Legal, Policy, and Compliance teams to ensure alignment, and translate complex operational risk into clear, actionable reporting for senior leaders. You will also design and improve the mechanisms your work depends on, building repeatable processes that scale beyond any individual engagement. This role requires independent judgment in ambiguous environments, the ability to influence without authority across senior stakeholders, and the operational discipline to close gaps rather than just identify them. You'll work under the direction of the function lead but operate with significant autonomy on your assigned portfolio. Key job responsibilities - Own and execute risk assessments across assigned operational process categories, identifying control gaps, single points of failure, and recovery readiness deficiencies - Drive remediation actions from finding through verified closure ensuring ownership is explicit, timelines are met, evidence is documented, and recurrence prevention is addressed - Lead business continuity planning activities for assigned processes including plan development, exercise design and facilitation, and post-exercise remediation tracking - Coordinate across functional teams (Operations, Legal, Policy, Compliance, Data Governance) to gather inputs, confirm alignment, and resolve dependencies on open risk items - Produce clear, executive-ready risk reporting that translates operational complexity into decision-relevant narratives for senior leaders - Maintain and improve risk registers, assessment frameworks, and program documentation to support inspection, audit readiness, and team scalability - Design and refine team mechanisms - assessment templates, escalation criteria, intake processes, tracking tools that make risk work repeatable and reduce dependence on institutional knowledge - Identify systemic patterns across findings and assessments; escalate structural gaps with recommendations to the function lead - Support cross-functional initiatives including regulatory response, audit coordination, and operational resilience projects as the team's portfolio evolves About the team The Compliance & Data Integrity (CDI) vertical under GOSS ensures Amazon's operations are compliant, resilient, and built on trusted data. The Global Risk & Business Continuity function quantifies operational risk to influence strategic decisions across the infrastructure portfolio, translating disruptions and resilience gaps into financial and operational impact scenarios. This function is distinct from Compliance Operations (adherence to rules) and Strategic Enablement (capital decisions). Global Risk provides the quantified risk signals both rely on - drawing on Data Governance for inputs, Regulatory Strategy for external drivers, and Compliance Operations for control effectiveness data.
Basic Qualifications
  • - 5+ years of compliance, audit or risk management experience - Experience driving direction and alignment with cross-functional teams - Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Business, Operations, Finance, Engineering, or equivalent experience - Experience producing written analysis and recommendations for senior leadership audiences - Track record of managing multiple concurrent workstreams with competing priorities and delivering against deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
  • - Knowledge of risk frameworks (ISO 31000, COSO ERM) or structured risk assessment methodologies applied in an operational context - Experience designing or improving operational processes, mechanisms, or governance structures in a large organization - Background in business continuity planning, crisis management, or operational resilience, including exercise design and facilitation - Experience working in regulated environments or across multiple jurisdictions - Comfort with data and reporting tools (Excel, SQL, dashboards) sufficient to support analysis and visibility without dedicated analytical resources Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
