Job Description
The New York Times is continuing to expand its video journalism, identifying compelling visual stories across the depth and breadth of our report. We showcase the expertise of Times journalists on-camera, share urgent news updates, and produce on-the-ground reporting, pioneering Visual Investigations, and video podcasts.
We are looking for a Senior Producer who can lead a team in Seoul to create groundbreaking, must-see digital news videos. You are a talented storyteller and strong people manager who is passionate about breaking news, live journalism and enterprise. You have experience reporting on international stories, with particular expertise in Asia. You can work autonomously to set the team’s news agenda, in close coordination with newsroom priorities and video team managers in New York. You will need to identify critical stories and visual storytelling opportunities for important news moments in Asia, the U.S. and the rest of the world.
You will oversee everything from live streams and news clips to enterprise projects and Reporter Video, managing a team of video journalists to execute on each of those priorities. Your sharp visual and editorial skills will ensure that the right stories are assigned. Before videos are published onsite and on social, you will ensure that they meet the editorial standards, style and quality of the Times. You will coach video journalists to improve and work toward autonomy.
This role will also require working in close collaboration with the newsroom in Seoul, including the International desk and the Live team. You will serve as a video lead for colleagues during Asia hours, providing editorial guidance and constructive feedback. We are looking for a proven leader who can communicate effectively with the video team and the newsroom as well as senior leadership.
You are passionate about working on The Times’ expansion into live journalism and eager to innovate.
This is an in-office position based in Seoul and includes regular attendance in the office four days each week. There may be some flexibility to work remotely per your departmental guidance.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee, assign and conceive news video coverage in collaboration with The Times newsroom.
- Collaborate with The Times’ worldwide network of reporters and editors to show our audience what’s happening as it happens.

- Draw ideas from a range of video sources, including wire services, UGC, eyewitness video, archival footage, motion graphics, and original footage.
- Review, assign and provide feedback on stories.
- Manage and encourage producers to work to their maximum potential.
- Oversee a team that produces live journalism, daily news videos, Reporter Video and enterprise all while fostering experiments with new video concepts and strategies.
- Oversee the production of social content and off-platform video.
- Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.
- You will report to the Deputy Editor, Video
Basic Qualifications:
- 10+ years working in digital or broadcast news.
- 3+ years managing direct reports or proven track record in managing video journalists.
- Broad and in-depth experience producing videos in a newsroom.
- Proven track record in managing video journalists.
- Demonstrated deep command of a variety of video sources, including wire services, UGC, archival footage, motion graphics, and original footage, as well as the journalistic standards and copyright issues involved in their reproduction
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience overseeing UGC verification work is a plus.
- Excellent writing, editing and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a breaking news environment and ensure that fellow team members are meeting deadlines.
- Expert knowledge of current events with advanced-level experience covering breaking news stories in Asia and internationally.
- Understanding of Times standards of journalistic excellence and truthfulness.
