Description
  • Do you want to shape the architecture behind systems that tell Amazon's fulfillment network exactly how to plan, schedule, and ship millions of packages every day? We are looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to lead the technical direction across multiple teams and production platforms within Fulfillment Optimization: systems that transform network-level forecasts and plans into actionable signals consumed by scheduling, capacity allocation, and transportation decision-making systems worldwide. In this role, you will define and drive technology strategy across multiple teams, each owning distinct production systems that must work together seamlessly to optimize fulfillment at Amazon scale. You will provide architectural leadership where teams have well-understood customer problems but undefined or conflicting technical paths forward. You will identify integration patterns and shared infrastructure opportunities that no single team would see in isolation, make high-judgment calls on one-way-door decisions that affect multiple services and their consumers, and build consensus among engineers and leaders with different priorities. You will write exemplary production code in Python, design event-driven architectures on AWS that achieve five-nines availability, and set engineering standards for code organization, clarity, simplicity, and error handling that raise the bar across the organization. What makes this role compelling is the combination of broad organizational influence and deep technical ownership. You will not be embedded in a single team — you will resolve root causes of endemic problems that span team boundaries, simplify architectures that have grown complex under rapid iteration, and drive alignment on contentious technical trade-offs where teams have competing needs. You will mentor multiple engineers across teams, influence software decisions made by partner organizations within SCOT, and ensure that the systems and the people you work with are stronger and more capable because of your contributions. If you thrive on driving clarity across ambiguous multi-team technical landscapes, owning distributed systems at scale, and shaping the engineering culture of an organization, this is the role for you. Define and own the technical architecture across multiple teams and production systems within Fulfillment Optimization, driving technology strategy where cross-team alignment is critical and the path forward is ambiguous Lead complex distributed systems projects that span team boundaries — identifying shared patterns, resolving architectural conflicts, and designing solutions that are as simple as possible while achieving production excellence Drive cross-team integration between forecasting, planning, and execution systems that feed downstream transportation and scheduling decisions across Amazon's network Mentor multiple engineers across teams, set engineering standards for the organization, and influence software decisions across partner teams within SCOT
