  • Is problem solving through teamwork in your DNA? Do you like the idea of seeing how your work impacts the bigger picture? Answer yes to any of these and you'll fit right in here at Amazon Robotics. We are a smart partnership focused team of doers that work passionately to apply innovative advances in robotics and software to solve real-world challenges that will transform our customers' experiences in ways we can't even image yet. We invent new improvements every day. We are Amazon Robotics and we will give you the tools and guidance that you need to invent with us in ways that are rewarding, fulfilling and fun. As the Software Development Manager for OIS Console Foundations, you lead the team that owns the common platform every Operational Infrastructure Services (OIS) team builds on. Your team delivers the Console foundations service teams inherit instead of rebuilding - authorization, notifications, global search, the cloudscape component library, distributed tracing, and the embedded AI layer, so customers get answers and take action directly in the Console rather than filing a request. Thousands of solution owners across Amazon's global operations sites depend on these capabilities to deploy network, compute, and devices without learning infrastructure internals. You hire and grow the engineers who build them, set technical direction with Principal Engineers and product managers, and earn adoption from partner service teams by proving value rather than mandating use. You'll be joining a team that's at the forefront of infrastructure innovation, working on greenfield projects with significant business impact, and building solutions that directly enable Amazon's operations teams to move faster and more efficiently. Key job responsibilities The ideal candidate has built and operated customer-facing distributed systems and has led or mentored engineers through ambiguous, multi-quarter work. You work well with senior engineers on hard technical calls, you keep the customer outcome first, you disagree and commit, and you raise the operational bar for your team. - Lead, hire, develop, and retain a team of software engineers; manage performance, set goals, and grow careers. - Own the roadmap and delivery for your team's scope — the shared Console foundations and embedded AI layer OIS teams build on — and prioritize it with your product manager and Principal Engineer against available capacity. - Set and uphold the bar for technical design, code quality, and operational excellence; own the availability, latency, and security of your services through on-call and operational reviews. - Drive adoption of shared platform capabilities across OIS partner service teams through influence and demonstrated value rather than mandate. - Balance speed, safety, and long-term maintainability when making design and sequencing tradeoffs, including the higher-stakes calls that come with authorization and AI safety. - Manage cross-team dependencies and stakeholder relationships, and represent your team in design and operations reviews. - Keep the team focused on the customer outcome: making infrastructure self-service for solution owners across Amazon's operations sites. A day in the life As a Software Development Manager on our team, you own the health and growth of your engineering team and the impact it delivers. You hire and develop engineers, raise the bar for design and operational excellence, and partner with principal engineers and product managers to shape technical direction and prioritize the roadmap against real constraints. Much of your impact comes through influence rather than authority. You earn adoption of shared Console capabilities from partner service teams by demonstrating value, and you weigh speed, safety, and long-term maintainability as your team builds the foundations and embedded AI capabilities that other OIS teams rely on. You'll explore emerging AI tools and bring your learnings back to strengthen the platform and your team. This is a role where people leadership, technical judgment, and customer obsession come together to make building on OIS Console faster and more self-service.
