Description
  • We build the technology that turns Amazon's physical network from a spreadsheet problem into a software-defined system. As a Software Development Manager within Global Operations Engineering Services - Technology (GOES-T), you'll lead the engineers who own the solutions that Amazon's real estate, construction, compliance, and site leadership teams use to plan, permit, construct, and operate hundreds of thousands active projects across 50+ countries. Our products sit at the origin of how Amazon's physical world gets built. We are replacing a legacy system to become the single solutions for insights and risk of the global operations. Our tools automate monitoring of permits, certificates, and growth so Amazon never misses a deadline and ensures that truth propagates everywhere automatically. We are actively deprecating legacy systems, onboarding new organizations onto modern platforms, proving out an enterprise data architecture, and bringing agentic AI and science solution into real estate workflows. You will own a product domain end to end, from technical vision through delivery and adoption, and you will do it with a team. Key job responsibilities Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team: Own the performance, development, and well-being of a team of software engineers and contingent workers distributed across multiple regions. Set clear expectations, provide direct feedback, and create an environment where engineers have ownership, autonomy, and a path to grow. Define technical vision and drive architectural decisions: Shape the long-term direction of your product domain, making deliberate tradeoffs between speed, scalability, data quality, and customer experience. Ensure your architecture aligns with the broader vision and enterprise governance standards. Own delivery from roadmap through adoption: You are accountable not just for shipping code but for customer outcomes. This means partnering with Product Managers to define what to build, sequencing work against dependencies and constraints, and measuring success by whether teams actually use and trust what you deliver. Drive deprecation of legacy systems by ensuring your team delivers the capabilities, data migrations, and compliance controls required for cutover, without disrupting active deliveries for customers. Enforce data quality: Champion the principle that bad data is an engineering problem, not a cleanup problem. Collaborate across organizational boundaries: Work effectively with other Orgs and GOES-T pillars. Many of our most interesting problems live in the seams between teams, and you will be expected to operate in that ambiguity with clarity and accountability. Establish operational excellence: Own your team's OEE KPIs, incident response, and operational health. Drive improvements in delivery speed without stretching the team into unsustainable patterns. Elevate the SDM role: This position is not a project manager with direct reports. You are a true engineering leader accountable for technical excellence, team health, cross-functional alignment, and the operating rhythms that make sustained delivery possible.
