Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Accounting Supervisor, the Staff Accountant supports the Accounting team by performing a variety of accounting and financial reporting activities. This role is responsible for researching and analyzing financial information, maintaining accurate accounting records, and assisting with the preparation of financial statements and management reports. The Staff Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial data to support business operations and decision-making.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Daily cash reconciliations, related journal entries, and coordination with AR/AP to ensure reconciling items are cleared timely.
- Payroll accounting, including earnings, bonus, and benefits-related activity.
- ASC 842 lease accounting, including journal entries, lease schedules, new lease activity, and financial statement footnote support.
- CECL accounting under ASC 326, including reserve calculations and research of anomalies within the unbilled receivables portfolio.
- General ledger account analysis and variance explanations for balance sheet and P&L fluctuations.
- Participate in the monthly financial close process by preparing and posting month-end journal entries.
- Prepare and maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records.
- Prepare supporting schedules, documentation, and analyses for the annual financial audit.
- Assist auditors by providing requested information and ensuring audit deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
- Assist in the preparation, analysis, and delivery of ad hoc financial reports and management requests.
- May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Accounting
- A minimum of 2 years of accounting experience in public or private accounting.
- Technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP and accrual-based accounting.
- Strong Excel proficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to prepare clear, supportable analyses.
- NetSuite and Power BI experience preferred.
- Ability to research variances, identify root causes, and present recommended solutions.
- Process improvement mindset and ability to contribute ideas that improve efficiency and accuracy.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the standard duties of this job, the employee can expect light physical exertion with long periods of sitting, occasional standing and walking; limited bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; occasional lifting/moving of items up to 15 pounds.
Hearing and speech communication in person and over the telephone is essential to fulfilling the duties of this position. Specific vision abilities required to read printed materials and a computer screen; including close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
