Job Description
This position is based in Rennes, France.
IDnow is looking for a Staff DevOps Engineer (f/m/d) to join our growing platform team in Rennes, France. We are looking for someone who can go beyond execution and take true technical ownership of our platform - driving architecture decisions, mentoring peers, and leading critical projects as we transition from on-premises infrastructure to AWS.
You will be a senior technical voice within the team, working closely with the Engineering Manager and cross-functional stakeholders to shape the future of our platform infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a staff-level technical lead - own epics, drive architecture decisions, and set the technical direction for platform initiatives.
- Lead the migration from on-premises infrastructure to AWS, ensuring continuity and resilience throughout the transition.
- Champion best practices in infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and platform reliability.
- Serve as a go-to expert and escalation point for complex technical challenges within the team.
- Design, build, and maintain Kubernetes-based infrastructure across both cloud (AWS) and on-prem environments.
- Manage and optimize the on-premises virtualization platform (Proxmox/Ceph) while progressively shifting workloads to AWS.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform (AWS) and Ansible (on-prem).
- Manage networking components including firewalls, switches, and related security configurations.
- Ensure platform security through TLS certificate management, Vault, and close collaboration with the Security team
- Participate in the on-call rotation (approximately every 6 weeks) covering the full platform stack - from infrastructure to CI/CD layers.
- Respond to and resolve production incidents in a timely manner; contribute to post-mortems and continuous improvement.
- Support and improve observability, monitoring, and alerting across the platform.
Preferred Experience
- 5+ years of experience in DevOps or Platform Engineering.
- Demonstrated experience operating at a Staff or Senior+ level — owning projects end-to-end with minimal oversight.
- Experience working in a hybrid on-prem / cloud environment, ideally during cloud migration.
- Passionate about technology and always learning.
- Proactive, ownership-driven mindset, you build, improve, and take responsibility.
- Strong communicator- able to engage stakeholders, document decisions, and collaborate across distributed teams.
Nice-to-have's
- Familiarity with Proxmox or similar open-source hypervisors.
- Experience with security tooling beyond SSL/TLS (e.g., WAF, IDS/IPS).
- Experience in a fast-moving SaaS or product-led engineering organization.
- Comfort with AI-assisted development workflows.
Perks & Benefits
- Health & Wellbeing: Use your full access to the mental health platform nilo, including 1on1 sessions.
- We value personal and professional development: make full use of Udemy, our training platform with 24/7 access and unlimited content/course consumption incl. certification.
- We make your remote work comfy: we provide support on equipment and offer flexible working hours.
- We value collaboration & love to come together: regular onsite gatherings, internal initiatives and summer parties to connect outside of work.
- May your family require your attention or other reasons apply: use the benefit of our paid special leave days.
- Enjoy the possibility to combine work with a longer stay at your holiday destination or extend a weekend with our Workcation possibilities.
- In addition to the perks & benefits above, we offer specific benefits that differ between our locations.
