Job Description

Position Summary

The Tax Manager is responsible for providing tax compliance, planning, and advisory services for high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, estates, and closely held businesses. This role partners with wealth advisors to identify tax-saving opportunities, manages complex tax engagements, reviews returns, and delivers strategic guidance to clients. The Tax Manager also supports and mentors tax staff while helping ensure exceptional client service and proactive tax planning solutions.
 
Primary Responsibilities

· Perform and manage tax compliance and planning services for high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, estates, private foundations, closely held businesses, and related entities, including extensions, quarterly estimates, projections, and year-end planning;

· Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, trusts, estates, private foundations, partnerships, S corporations, and closely held businesses;

· Identify tax planning opportunities and coordinate with wealth advisors and client service teams to support clients’ broader financial, estate, charitable, and investment objectives;

· Research tax issues, prepare clear recommendations, and communicate findings to clients, advisors, and internal stakeholders in a practical and professional manner;

· Manage client engagements, workflow, deadlines, review processes, and coordination with permanent and seasonal tax staff;

· Build and maintain strong client relationships by providing proactive communication, high-quality service, and timely responses to client and advisor inquiries;

· Collaborate with wealth management teams to incorporate income tax, fiduciary tax, gift tax, charitable planning, stock option, and multi-state planning considerations into client recommendations;

· Review and provide guidance to tax preparers and seasonal staff, including technical coaching and feedback during busy season;

· Assist with internal tax education, process improvements, and practice standards that support consistent, high-quality client service;

· Monitor relevant tax law developments and assist with communicating timely planning insights to advisors and clients through newsletters, presentations, social media, and other client communications.

Qualifications

· A CPA, EA, JD, or comparable advanced tax credential, with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant tax experience; public accounting, family office, or wealth management experience preferred.

· Experience serving high-net-worth individuals and families, including individual, fiduciary, gift, foundation, partnership, and closely held business tax returns.

· Strong working knowledge of federal and state income tax, fiduciary income tax, gift and estate tax concepts, charitable planning, stock compensation, and multi-state compliance matters.

· Ability to manage engagements, meet competing deadlines, support staff, and maintain ownership of client deliverables through completion.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain tax concepts clearly to clients and advisors.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, and ability to learn and use tax, planning, workflow, and document management technology.

· Strong attention to detail, self-initiated follow-through, sound professional judgment, and strong time management and organizational skills.

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a client-focused, team-oriented wealth management environment.

· Willingness and ability to work additional hours, as needed, during peak tax filing and planning seasons.

The position prefers:

· Experience preparing high-net-worth individual, business, partnership, foundation, and gift tax returns.

· Experience with ProSystem fx® Tax, CCH Axcess, and BNA Income Tax™ Planner; and

· Big Four or large regional accounting firm experience.

This position is an exempt position. The annualized base pay range for this role is expected to be between $110,000 - $130,000 per year base salary compensation range. Actual base pay may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, subject matter expertise, geographic location where work will be performed, and the applicant’s skill set. The base pay is just one component of the total compensation package. Other rewards may include an annual cash bonus and a comprehensive benefits package, including but not limited to medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and 401(k).
