POSITION TITLE: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) Instructor
DURATION: Part-Time Contract Role
COMPENSATION: $65/hour
WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Per Scholas is seeking a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) instructor to become a member of our National Training Team. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, problem-solving individual with strong technical and instructional skills, demonstrates the ability to adapt quickly to a dynamic environment, and maintains a strong sense of accountability. To succeed in this role, candidates must be business-minded within our mission focus and excel in instructional delivery that meets clients’ and learners’ high expectations.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Deliver instructor-led training that prepares students for the (ISC)² CISSP certification and careers as Information Security Managers, Security Architects, Security Consultants, and CISOs. Responsibilities include daily instruction, assessment administration, attendance tracking, one-on-one tutoring, daily evaluation and monitoring of individual student progress, and consistent enforcement of classroom standards.
- Teach advanced security concepts across the eight CISSP domains, including:
- Security and Risk Management (governance, compliance, risk analysis, threat modeling)
- Asset Security (data classification, lifecycle management, protection controls)
- Security Architecture and Engineering (security models, cryptography, PKI, cloud security)
- Communication and Network Security (OSI/TCP-IP, VPNs, wireless security, segmentation)
- Identity and Access Management (AAA, SSO, federation, OAuth/OIDC)
- Security Assessment and Testing (vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, audits)
- Security Operations (incident response, disaster recovery, business continuity, SIEM)
- Software Development Security (SDLC integration, DevSecOps, SAST/DAST, API security)
- Facilitate hands-on lab exercises involving security assessment tools, cryptographic implementations, network security configurations, and identity management systems through the ACI Learning platform.
- Evaluate student performance using scenario-based assessments, domain-specific practice exams, and structured performance checklists.
- Provide students with relevant supplemental resources for deeper learning on security concepts, industry certifications, and best practices.
- Dedicate capacity (e.g., 10% of non-instructional time) to professional development, technical upskilling, curriculum modernization, and contributing to the product’s retrospective/evaluation cycle.
- Work closely with the instructional and curriculum development teams to provide feedback on lab effectiveness, learner pain points, and content clarity.
- Maintain and update Salesforce and/or our LMS with student grades, certification scores, attendance, and performance notes.
- Support and maintain training curricula, syllabi, lesson plans, and classroom materials, identifying areas for improvement based on delivery experience.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO US
Instructional Skill Sets
- 7+ years of working in information security roles such as Security Analyst, Security Engineer, Security Architect, Security Consultant, or CISO
- 2–5 years of instructional skills teaching technical security subjects to professionals and practitioners
- Strong technical background; able to grasp and convey highly technical subject matter clearly across all eight CISSP domains
- Ability to respond clearly to live digital conversations via Zoom or in-person training environments
- Strong communication and facilitation skills
- Experience teaching adult learners in structured training environments preferred
Required Skill Sets
- Technical proficiency in the following areas:
- Security governance, risk management, and compliance frameworks
- Cryptographic systems and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)
- Network security architecture and secure communication protocols
- Identity and access management (IAM) systems and federation protocols
- Security assessment and penetration testing methodologies
- Incident response, business continuity, and disaster recovery planning
- Demonstrated understanding of regulatory compliance requirements (GDPR, HIPAA, SOX, PCI-DSS) and their application to enterprise security programs
- Ability to guide learners through complex scenario-based risk assessments and security architecture design exercises
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and maintaining technical currency in evolving security technologies and threat landscapes
- Demonstrated fluency in utilizing Generative AI tools (e.g., Google Gemini) for instructional prep, assessment, and to model real-world professional use in the security domain
Preferred Skill Sets
- Active (ISC)² CISSP certification is required
- Significant prior experience leading security programs or consulting engagements for enterprise organizations
- Experience with SIEM platforms, vulnerability management tools, and cloud security architectures
- Additional industry certifications such as:
- (ISC)² CCSP, SSCP, or CAP
- CompTIA Security+, CySA+, or CASP+
- ISACA CISM, CISA, or CRISC
- GIAC certifications (GSEC, GPEN, GCIH)
- Experience delivering competency-based or hands-on technical training programs
Professional Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent industry experience)
- Strong technical aptitude (Google Workspace, LMS platforms, Zoom, project management tools)
- Excellent written communication, presentation, and classroom management skills

Compensation
