Position Details (What will you be doing?)
ecoATM is seeking a transformational Vice President of Engineering to lead the evolution of our technology organization into an AI-enabled, platform-driven, modern software engineering organization. Reporting to the CDTO, this executive will drive engineering strategy, organizational transformation, architecture modernization, and execution excellence across a complex omnichannel ecosystem spanning kiosks, cloud platforms, mobile applications, enterprise systems, marketplaces, data platforms, and AI-enabled products.
This leader will own engineering execution and technology modernization across Software Engineering, Enterprise Applications, Platform Engineering, Architecture, AI/ML Engineering, Web & Mobile, Kiosk Applications, Device Processing Systems, ERP integrations, DevOps/SRE, QA Automation, and Reliability Engineering.
The VP of Engineering will play a critical role in scaling engineering capabilities, improving developer productivity, modernizing legacy platforms, operationalizing AI technologies, and building high-performing teams capable of delivering innovative, scalable, and resilient products that accelerate ecoATM’s growth and re-commerce mission.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Organizational Transformation
- Lead and scale a high-performing engineering organization across software, platform engineering, QA, DevOps, architecture, and enterprise systems.
- Build a culture centered around engineering excellence, accountability, innovation, experimentation, and continuous improvement.
- Drive organizational transformation toward AI-assisted engineering workflows and modern software delivery practices.
- Establish strong leadership development, succession planning, coaching, and talent management programs.
- Recruit and retain top-tier engineering talent capable of operating in fast-paced, high-scale environments.
- Create high talent-density engineering teams with clear ownership, accountability, and measurable outcomes.
AI & Modern Engineering Transformation
- Lead adoption of AI-native engineering practices across the SDLC including AI-assisted coding, testing, observability, documentation, and operational automation.
- Drive engineering productivity improvements through modern developer tooling, automation frameworks, platform engineering, and generative AI workflows.
- Partner with Product, Data, and ML teams to operationalize AI and machine learning capabilities into customer-facing and operational platforms.
- Establish governance, standards, and security practices for responsible AI adoption across engineering.
- Evaluate emerging technologies, AI frameworks, and modern architectures to accelerate innovation and business impact.
Technology Strategy & Architecture
- Partner with the CDTO to define and execute the long-term technology vision and engineering roadmap.
- Lead modernization initiatives to simplify legacy systems, reduce technical debt, improve resiliency, and increase engineering velocity.
- Drive migration toward modular, service-oriented, API-first, and cloud-native architectures.
- Provide technical oversight across distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, backend services, frontend applications, and embedded kiosk technologies.
- Champion scalable, secure, resilient, and observable engineering patterns across all platforms.
- Support international expansion and future platform scalability through strong architecture governance.
Delivery Excellence & Operational Execution
- Own end-to-end engineering delivery from architecture and development through testing, deployment, monitoring, and operational support.
- Establish engineering operating metrics including DORA metrics, release quality, deployment frequency, MTTR, reliability, and developer productivity.
- Improve software delivery velocity while maintaining strong standards for quality, security, and resiliency.
- Drive operational excellence through automation, observability, SRE practices, CI/CD, and platform standardization.
- Lead engineering capacity planning, budgeting, vendor management, and resource allocation.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Partner closely with Product, UX, Data, Security, Operations, Finance, and executive leadership teams.
- Align engineering priorities with company strategy, customer outcomes, revenue growth, and operational efficiency goals.
- Represent Engineering in executive leadership forums, board discussions, and strategic planning initiatives.
- Foster a product engineering culture focused on experimentation, measurable business outcomes, and rapid iteration.
Education & Experience (What education and experience will you need to be successful?)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive software engineering experience with deep technical foundations.
- 8+ years leading multi-team engineering organizations, including management of managers.
- Prior VP Engineering or Senior Engineering leadership experience in a high-growth technology company, marketplace platform, SaaS company, or consumer technology organization.
- Demonstrated success modernizing platforms, scaling engineering organizations, and driving operational transformation.
- Experience leading engineering organizations through cloud modernization, AI adoption, and platform simplification initiatives.
- Experience managing engineering budgets, strategic vendor relationships, and large-scale technology investments.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (What knowledge, skills and abilities will you need to be successful?)
- Strong technical depth across distributed systems, cloud-native architecture, API-first platforms, event-driven systems, DevOps/SRE, observability, CI/CD automation, and modern engineering frameworks.
- Hands-on understanding of modern engineering stacks including .NET, TypeScript/JavaScript, Node.js, React, Go, Rust, AWS, Kubernetes, and cloud-native infrastructure.
- Experience modernizing and scaling complex legacy and custom-built enterprise platforms.
- Demonstrated success implementing AI-assisted software development and engineering productivity initiatives.
- Strong understanding of AI/ML systems, developer tooling, and operational AI enablement.
- Experience leading engineering organizations supporting complex ecosystems spanning hardware, software, operations, logistics, marketplaces, and customer-facing platforms.
