Job Description

At Joko, our mission is to we help consumers save time and money when shopping online or in-store.

Founded in Paris, Joko is a tech company and certified B Corp with over 120 talents across Paris, Barcelona, and New York (and beyond). More than 7 million users already save money every day at 10,000+ merchants with Joko.

From cashback and automatic coupons to price alerts, we've kept expanding our products to make shopping smarter. Today, Joko is an AI shopping app: with Juno, our shopping assistant, users can find the right product at the best price in only a few seconds, with recommendations that get sharper the more they use it.

Having reached profitability in our core market, we’re now scaling globally, with a strong focus on the US.

It’s still day 1, come build the future of shopping with us!

This position is remote-friendly.

⚖️ Our Legal team

The Legal team is at the heart of Joko’s growth and protection. We navigate the complexities of contracts, regulations, and risk management to ensure the company operates smoothly and seizes opportunities with confidence.

We handle all legal matters: Contracts, Corporate, Labor, Data protection, IP etc… enabling other teams to innovate with confidence.

Leveraging our expertise and external partners, we collaborate with all functions to protect Joko’s interests efficiently and proactively.

🚀 What you will do

As Legal Counsel, Product & Privacy, you will work hand in hand with our Product, Tech and business teams to make sure our product, including Juno, complies with privacy, AI, consumer and platform rules, from the PRD to the launch. You will report directly to the Head of Legal (Maya).

🔐 Privacy and AI

  • Run our GDPR programme on a centralised, cross-European basis, working closely with our DPO: records of processing, DPIAs, privacy notices, data subject requests, processor agreements and transfers.

  • Ensure compliance with non EU privacy laws as the teams grow our international activity.

  • Champion privacy by design within the product teams: show up early, ask the right questions, and help find solutions that work for users and the business.

  • Act as product counsel on Juno alongside the Product team: AI Act compliance, transparency obligations, and model and vendor terms.

🛍️ Consumer and platform rules

  • Maintain our terms of use and terms of sale with the teams who design our offers, including the cashback and gift card terms, withdrawal rights, the referral programme, and the rules of our prize draws and contests.

  • Keep Joko compliant with the expectations of the DGCCRF and its equivalents in each new country, including country-specific terms where local law requires them.

  • Own our compliance with app store and browser store rules (Apple, Google, Chrome Web Store, Firefox), together with the Security and Product teams.

  • Ensure our compliance with the terms of our affiliate networks, with the teams who manage these partnerships.

💳 Banking and payments regulation

  • Map the regulatory perimeter of each business line and each new market (payment and e-money regimes, gift cards) with the teams building them and our external specialist counsel.

  • Monitor whether each business line stays within its current status as the product evolves.

💡 How the scope is covered. We don't expect you to be an expert in all of these areas. Privacy and AI are the core of the role; consumer law and platform rules can be learned on the job if they're new to you, and we rely on external counsel in needed.

🙌 Who you are

  • You have 4 to 6 years of experience in data protection, including time in a top-tier law firm or as in-house product or privacy counsel.

  • You have worked with product and tech teams, and you can read a PRD or a data flow and identify the issues it raises.

  • You follow AI regulation closely and you have already advised on AI products.

  • Experience in consumer law is a plus; a CIPP/E or equivalent certification is a plus.

  • You hold a Master's degree in IP/IT law, data protection law or business law from a leading French law school. Admission to the Paris Bar is a plus.

  • You are fluent in French and English.

  • You give clear and actionable answers to non-lawyers, and you know when a risk is acceptable.

  • You are curious about AI and want to learn how to build the tools that change legal work.

What we tell you upfront. Until the three poles are staffed, every Legal Counsel works across the full legal scope with the Head of Legal. Functional ownership is formalised as soon as the Commercial & IP and Product & Privacy seats are both filled.
