About the Team:
The Growth and Monetization team helps more learners discover Quizlet, build lasting study habits, and find value in our free and paid experiences. We bring growth and revenue together under one strategy: attract and retain learners we can serve and monetize over the long term. Growth owns the free experience, advertising experiences, internationalization, and product-led growth loops, working closely with our subscriptions and payments teams.
About the Role:
As Principal Product Manager, Growth, you will shape how Quizlet attracts, activates, and retains learners around the world. You will define a growth strategy across the free experience, ads, internationalization, and growth loops, turning insights about learner needs and behavior into experiences that build engagement and sustainable revenue.
You will be a senior individual contributor within Growth and Monetization, partnering with Engineering, Design, Data Science, Marketing, and Ads Revenue Operations. You will identify opportunities beyond the existing roadmap, align teams around the most valuable problems, and lead delivery across product surfaces. Your decisions will connect free learner value, ads revenue, and the potential for long-term subscription adoption.
We are open to hiring at the Senior Staff level based on experience and demonstrated scope. At Principal, you will shape strategy across the growth portfolio and influence adjacent teams. At Senior Staff, you will lead major initiatives across multiple experiences and help define the broader growth direction.
In this role, you will:
Define the growth strategy. Identify the audiences, learner needs, and product opportunities that can drive durable growth. Set priorities across the portfolio and align partners around a roadmap that balances near-term impact with longer-term opportunities.
Make the free experience worth returning to. Improve onboarding, activation, and repeat engagement by helping learners discover useful study tools and reach value quickly. Partner with Learning Experience teams to build lasting study habits across the learner journey.
Build growth loops that compound. Identify and test how sharing, collaboration, referrals, and user-created content can bring new learners into Quizlet and encourage existing learners to return. Scale loops that attract and retain learners who find lasting value.
Grow ads revenue through a better product experience. Partner with Ads Revenue Operations and Engineering on placements, formats, ad load, and performance. Evaluate revenue gains alongside study completion, retention, and customer trust.
Lead international growth. Identify promising markets and diagnose barriers to activation and retention. Prioritize localization and market-specific experiences, partnering with subscriptions and payments on pricing and payment needs.
Connect growth to long-term monetization. Work with subscriptions and payments PMs to define free and paid journeys, assess downstream value, and resolve tradeoffs. Use cohort behavior and lifetime value to guide investment across audiences and markets.
Build a rigorous experimentation practice. Define hypotheses, improve instrumentation with Data Science and Engineering, and run experiments with clear success criteria. Account for seasonality, acquisition mix, and longer-term effects before scaling a result.
Lead through influence. Drive complex initiatives across teams, make decisions and dependencies clear, and resolve competing priorities. Raise the quality of product judgment through mentorship and better planning and decision practices.
What you bring to the table:
A record of leading growth for consumer products at scale, with measurable results in activation, engagement, retention, or product-led acquisition. Your impact extends across multiple surfaces or user journeys.
Strong product judgment in freemium or ad-supported businesses. You can explain how you balanced learner or customer value, monetization, and growth, including decisions to forgo a short-term metric gain.
Experience identifying new opportunities and setting strategy in ambiguous problem spaces. You can connect individual experiments into a coherent growth strategy and make explicit choices about what to defer.
Deep analytical and experimentation skills, including cohort analysis, funnel diagnostics, A/B testing, and interpreting causal evidence. You can distinguish incremental impact from shifts in traffic mix or cannibalization.
Experience building consumer experiences with Engineering and Design, with enough technical fluency to guide instrumentation, platform dependencies, and delivery tradeoffs. You stay close to customers and use qualitative research alongside data.
The ability to influence senior stakeholders and partner teams without formal authority. You create clarity, navigate disagreement, and drive execution through changing priorities.
A record of making others more effective through mentorship, shared decision frameworks, and strong cross-functional collaboration. At Principal level, you have shaped strategy and operating practices beyond your immediate team.
Bonus points if you have:
Hands-on experience improving ad-supported consumer experiences, including ad yield, placements, or the effect of advertising on engagement.
Experience growing products internationally through localization, market prioritization, or adapting experiences to local learner needs.
Experience building sharing, referral, community, or content-driven growth loops, or growing education products with strong seasonal patterns.
Experience using AI to improve product discovery, experimentation, or growth experiences, with clear evidence of customer or business impact.
